Corona Blog --6: God wants the very best for us
Please lead us deeperWho is God’s purpose for us in this confusion and uncertainty?
Let’s pray.
‘Father, we long to know You more. Please lead us deeper, draw us closer to Your heart.’
In times of trouble, we often turn to the Bible verse that says, ‘We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him’ (Romans 8:28). We interpret ‘good’ as that which we want for ourselves, and so conclude that God is working things out the way we would like to see them turn out.
Yet, if we read on, we realise that we’ve missed the key point: the purpose of God.
‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.’ (Romans 8:28-29, my italics)
Each and every one of us is included. God has called and predestined every single human being to be His, while leaving the choice to us. God’s purpose for all of us is that we be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus.
As I wrote in my previous post, God the Father has already adopted us. We are His sons!
And, just as a newly adopted child learns what it is to live as a member of the new household, we are learning what it is to be a child of God, we are getting to know our Father better.
Sons by grace, we are becoming more like His natural Son.
This is the assurance that we have. That, in the midst of confusion and uncertainty, God our Father is busy building up His family: showing us more of Himself, drawing us ever closer to Him, making us more like His Son, Jesus. And, as we become more like Him, we know Him more and more: the One for Whom we are created, in Whose presence we find fullness of joy.
The ‘good’ that God the Father wants for us is far better than we want for ourselves.
Let’s pray.
‘Father, thank You for Who You are. Thank You that, through Your Son Jesus, You have adopted us, made us Your sons and that in all things You are helping us to become more like Him. Thank you that You want the very best for us.’
If you have questions or would like to get in touch for any reason, please send us an email.
We’d love to hear from you!
Love, Mary

Hello
Hi, my name is Mary. I’ve been a member of City Gate church for ages, and my desire to know God grows every year. I’ve recently been exploring the relationship we can have with God as Father because of Jesus, and that colours everything I see. In the midst of this corona virus pandemic, I find myself wondering what God is doing at this time.
